What is SSD?

SSD is a data storage device also called solid-state drive or electronic disk. It utilizes solid-state memory to store persistent data with the intention of providing access in the same way of a traditional block I/O hard disk drive.

Compared with traditional magnetic disk, solid state drive which uses flash memory as a storage medium is faster in reading and writing. With a small size, it is portable and less susceptible to physical shock. It makes no noise and can bear higher temperature. Moreover, the drive can maintain data when power is removed. It is a good container for operating system. In the other hand, SSD is much more expensive than traditional magnetic disk which is not acceptable for ordinary consumer. Limitations in write times and data recovery make it more distant to consumer.
